Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important official stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
