19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after March of that year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He defended 4 initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
