An individual who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel said items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained the defendant continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities again.
She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
